Its previous life as a restaurant-cabaret in the heart of the Golden Triangle lends this popular Paris Society club a grandiose, theatrical air. In this flamboyant setting, the fruit of the extravagant imagination of Russian-born French artist and designer, Romain de Tirtoff – known by the pseudonym Erté – chic evenings unfold. A milieu as glamorous as this calls for a glamorous crowd. And Raspoutine regularly finds itself playing host to Fashion Week’s swankiest soirées.
Whereas it once entertained the luminaries including Aga Khan, Serge Gainsbourg, the Count of Paris and Marlene Dietrich – who routinely sat at her favourite, perfectly placed round table – these days the wonderfully discrete Raspoutine is a stomping ground for the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Carine Roitfeld, and Kanye West. The club’s ‘dance to dawn’ motto is an easy one to live by thanks to its intoxicating deep house special mixes.
