Bestowed with the enviable title of the highest hotel in the French Alps, Le Refuge de Solaise is elegant, warm and contemporary, offering a mountain escape like none other. The former home of the Solaise cable car station Le Refuge de Solaise’s singular set up includes a boutique hotel with just 16 rooms and four apartments – perfectly perched on the peaks. Its impressive facilities include not one, but two restaurants, a bar, a spa – with a 25-metre indoor swimming pool and Exertier treatments and cosmetics – a shop, a dedicated children’s area and a 75 square metre seminar room located in the east wing of the refuge. All this with classic Alpine cosiness to match.
After days out on the slopes or trails, retreat to the roaring fire for a well-deserved snack, before heading to the bar for a rousing cocktail. Or two. Dinner is a decidedly Italian affair – either indoors at the renowned Gigi Rigolatto restaurant, or outdoors at Le Petit Refuge. Both are known for their authentic menus that are so much more than just mountain cuisine.
